Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Miguel Tavares has witnessed the birth
]and growth of House in Africa at the forefront.
Starting his professional career at a tender age of 15 Miguel has gone through generations of house music, cultivating his sound to be sophisticated and educated with a wide range which flows from deep to tech.
Entertaining crowds from the ghetto to Africa’s biggest festivals, supporting for a vast amount of international and local juggernauts including Stimming, Jiimpster, Black Coffee, Louie Vega, Soldiers of Twighlight, Karmon, Kant, Miguel Campbell, Tom Novy, Jullian Gomes, Jazzuelle, Brett Jackson and more.
Spending time on South Africa’s most desired decks is not his only contribution to the dance scene.
Miguel Tavares is one of the founders of the House Knights podcasts which is globally recognised and who also host exclusive underground events in Johannesburg. He is also a co owner of Antiquated Souls who are largely blamed to bringing deep house back to Johannesburg’s venues and city streets, when the genre was in a decline in the city’s Night Life.
His next step in his career was taking time off from the DJ Booth and into the studio, with releases on Chocolat records and forthcoming on various labels.
In most recent activity Miguel Tavares launched Berlin and Johannesburg based label Chocolat Records in 2015, with co owner Renato Rodriguez.
An exciting electronic music label poised to release a pristine catalogue with sounds from Chillout to Techno. Miguel Tavares wouldn’t describe himself as a DJ, but as a fan of music at its truest form.
